T he Irish Immigration Center is a multi-service center and safe place for immigrants of all nationalities. The Irish Immigration Center was established by a small group of Irish immigrants in 1989, principally to assist newly arriving Irish immigrants.
Familiar with the immigrant experience, these volunteers knew how overwhelming it could be to make the transition from newcomer to active member of the community. To help with issues like finding affordable housing and navigating the complex immigration system, the IIC founders set up a confidential hotline service to help their fellow Irish immigrants overcome these challenges and become active and contributing members of their new communities.
Over the years, the IIC developed into a multi-service center, offering advice and support on legal, employment, housing, substance abuse, social services and health care issues. Today, the IIC serves immigrants from over 100 countries, boasts a diverse staff and board, and is well known for its work to promote civic engagement and bridge cultural and other divides.
WHAT THEY SAY:
"It is encouraging to see a proudly Irish organization so committed to its Irish beginnings but with the ability to expand so far beyond them. IIC has been of great benefit to immigrant families from Galway to Guatemala and further, and we owe them a great deal."
